Responsibilities of the PTA Board Positions

We are grateful for our PTA volunteers who assume leadership roles each year. Basic descriptions of the various board position responsibilities include:


  • Preside at all PTA planning meetings
  • Coordinate the work of the officers and committees
  • Provide help to committees, if needed
  • Review bank statements monthly and cosign all checks
  • Represent the local PTA at all council meetings or send an alternate.

Vice President

  • Act as aide to the president
  • Minority community outreach officer
  • Staff outreach officer
  • Bank signatory


  • Assist the budget committee in developing the budget
  • Manage the PTA funds by balancing the PTA checkbook
  • Provide a financial report at the monthly PTA planning meetings
  • Receive and deposit all PTA funds in the PTA bank account
  • Disburse PTA funds in accordance with the approved budget
  • Keep accurate records
  • Prepare the PTA tax forms
  • Keep up-to-date on nonprofit financial issues from PTA Council

Recording Secretary

  • Record the minutes of all PTA planning meetings
  • File all records and keep a current copy of the bylaws

PTACHC Delegates

  • Attend  PTA Council of Howard County meetings
